A Puppy Story for National Puppy Day

March 23, 2016liloliveBlog

Hello Lil Olive friends!

In honor of National Puppy Day, we wanted to share a special Lil Olive story with you.

Many of you may not know that of the dozens and dozens (likely hundreds) of puppies that Lil Olive gave birth to during her 12-plus years as a mill momma, she was able to reconnect with one of them during her post-mill life — a little pup known on Facebook as .

As Pam “Dat Mommy” Horton tells the story …

“Lil Olive came in from a Missouri mill that had been shut down by the government. All of the pups that were there at the time of the closure were taken on by rescue organizations.

Sophie was adopted by another Colorado woman named Jennifer Walker and her family. At the same time, Olive went on to a hospice foster home, had surgery to remove her enormous mammary tumors … then was adopted … then returned … and then she finally came to live with us.

I met Jennifer on Facebook when I started . We decided to get together with another friend of mine here in Colorado Springs to have a doggie play date with our mill dogs. When Jennifer got there with Sophie, Olive could not get close enough to Sophie. She was obsessed with her, and Sophie seemed to really enjoy the attention. Olive was trying to pull Sophie up under her tummy, almost as if she was trying to protect her.

Jennifer brought Sophie down a number of times for Olive and her to be together and each time they were obsessed with one another. Olive would become the happy lil Momma with Sophie — sleeping on her, “protecting” her from us, licking her face.

It was quite beautiful because mill mommas have their babies ripped from them very early, never really letting them “mother.” When Olive was able to finally share her love with one of her babies, she reveled in it, and Sophie was always so relaxed and happy to be with her momma dog. Seeing Olive with Sophie was always very special to me.”

In honor of National Puppy Day, will you consider making a contribution to A Voice for Lil Olive (and please share our link with friends and family: tinyurl.com/lilolivefilm)?

It’s so important that we bring an end to puppy mills — both for the mommas that suffer needlessly, and the puppies that don’t receive a healthy, supported start at life.
