Why Raise Money to Make a Movie?

February 26, 2016liloliveBlog

Movies Can Change the World

A well-produced movie can change the world. Documentary films do this by capturing moments of time and using those sounds and images to engage emotions, change attitudes and educate an audience. When it releases later this year, A Voice for Lil Olive will be a catalyst for change.

Thousands of people have heard about the film on social media and through word-of-mouth. The momentum is starting to build toward a highly successful film, but we are not there yet.

Why Raise Money for a Film?

Many of you watching our IndieGoGo campaign and social media posts are probably wondering why we have to raise money to make this film. You’re thinking, “Can’t you just go make the movie?” You may also be thinking, “Someone else will help with the project, so my support can wait or is not needed.”

But in today’s world of indie filmmaking, help from individual fans like you is needed. Read on to understand why we are seeking $85,000 through IndieGoGo and  a total of almost $500,000 of financial support before the movie is finished.

Movies Are an Upfront Investment

A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into the early stages of a film’s development. This is considered the investment needed to bring the film to completion. This has to happen before the film can be sold or seen! This phase is called the development phase and it is the current stage for A Voice for Lil Olive.

Quality Movies Make a Difference

Have you ever felt like you wasted your time on a bad movie? Or do you remember how how a really great movie made you feel? There is a big difference between a quality movie and a bad one. We want A Voice for Lil Olive to be the best film ever on the subject.

Making a quality movie takes time and money. Without high-quality production and staff, we don’t think the movie can meet its objectives of making a real difference. Having said that, we don’t expect to spend millions like most Hollywood movies, rather we are going to watch every dollar and make sure A Voice for Lil Olive gets the best treatment possible.

Film Making Is Labor Intensive

It takes dozens of top-notch people to make an excellent documentary. We already have more than 10 people working on the first phase of the project in various capacities. Just planning and executing the online marketing takes several people including writers, graphic designers, web marketers, developers, printers and more. Many are working for little or no pay, but others need to be paid for their services.

Fundraising Goals

We are pursuing several avenues of fundraising, including corporate sponsorship. In order to get support from corporations, we need to develop a compelling story and show them the results they can expect. The IndieGoGo campaign is the first major fundraising step and will get us to the point where we can approach corporations for support. This is all known as the movie’s development phase.

Where the Money Goes

The work included in the film’s development phase includes the following:

  • Marketing materials
  • Website development
  • Content writing
  • Fundraising videos and trailers
  • Brochures
  • Graphics
  • Social media set-up and management
  • Movie posters
  • Publicity and PR
  • Travel
  • Consultants and legal
  • Accounting services
  • And more…

Our goal is to have enough materials to reach out to corporate sponsors and major donors to cover the budgets needed for the second phase, the production of the movie. The production phase includes the following:

  • Filming
  • Lighting
  • Photography
  • Sound
  • Narration
  • Music
  • Editing
  • Color correction
  • Actors and talent
  • And more…

Bottom Line? We Can’t Do This Without You

All this work will not get done unless people like you contribute. It is the core supporters of Lil Olive who will provide the funds to make A Voice for Lil Olive a masterpiece.

Jump off the fence and contribute today!

Thanks for your support. Together we can put an end to puppy mills and share Lil Olive’s story with the world.

A Voice for Lil Olive is a new documentary from award-winning filmmaker Pete Schuermann. The film explores the special bond between pets and their families, and how rescued dogs change lives. The film's mission is to make people aware of and to change attitudes about rescued pets through the telling of Lil Olive’s tale. In this way, she becomes the voice for so many dogs and animals in need.
